The car is complete with the exception of trim that goes on lower body - can get aftermarket.

The car will need glass, I have all of it plus one spare rear window but most got welding splatter on it (my bad).  Also have all window stainless trim. 

Bumpers will need re-done or purchase new.

I have GTX dash trim I bought, cannot come up with price.

The GTX has numbers match 440 engine but not transmisson. Should be .323 posi, has .323 tag on rear end.

This car is a great time capsule of history.  It is in extremely nice condition and been a well cared for car.  Driven only on special occassions over the years and always stored indoor and covered.  The same owner was an older gentleman that was not comfortable getting in and out of a lower car like a Trans Am anymore, so he decided to sell it.  We brought it in and checked it over.  Did the necessary maintenance required.  Along with a full detailing, buffing, waxing, mechanically addressing anything required or needed to allow someone to jump in and drive.

It currently has an original set of tires on it with the original untouched snowflake wheels as well.  I would recommend getting a new set with new tires for drivng on and just putting these in the corner of your garage.  Especially for any long distance driving.  Please call or email with any questions!

This has been a personal winter vehicle for me the last few years, prior to the original owner having it in Florida since new, a majority of its life.  It has been extremely well cared for and maintained its entire life.  It has a newer paint job on it that is maybe 5 years old and looks outstanding.  Base clear paint.

Additional Information on the Rarity of this car:

Back in 1979, when you were looking to order your Pontiac Trans AM, there are a lot of choices.  Hundreds of combinations of colors, options and drivelines were available to build any number of unique cars.  Because of the many options, there were a number of special combinations that rise to the top and become quite desirable.  This is one of those cars.

When selecting your engine, an often overlook choice was the L37, High Output TA 4.9.  Yes, there was a smaller displacement Pontiac V8 available in 1979.  It was the TA 6.6’s forgotten little brother!  Pontiac was challenged by GM executives to come up with a light weight small displacement V8 and the 301 (Actually closer to 302) was their answer.

The TA 4.9 was a solid 90lbs lighter than the larger V8’s.  This weight saving resulted in a superior weight balance, front to back, for these unique Trans AM’s.   In the September ‘79 issue of Car and Driver, they did a 5 car test.  If you read that article, the 1979 Trans AM, with the WS6 package and the TA 4.9 motor mated to a factory 4 speed, was crowned the winner.  It is worth noting that 2 of the remaining 4 cars in that comparison were some of GM’s finest, the 1979 Corvette and Camaro Z28, both powered by 350ci small block V8’s.

Offered with both an Automatic and 4 speed, if you checked the Borg Warner Super T-10 option, you still got a solid level of straight line performance to go with the all that cornering prowess.

Another rare option on this car is the WS7 package.  This is a little known one year option that included every component of the WS6 package, except the rear Disc Brakes.  In the beginning of the 1979 model year, Pontiac was having difficulty producing enough of the rear Disc Brake axles.  So the WS7 option was born to provide the buyers a solution that wouldn’t delay their cars in production.  By the time 1980 rolled around, the Disc Brake rear axles were plentiful, so the WS7 option was dropped.  It is rare – one year only options – with limited distribution like this that makes a specific Trans AM more valuable than others.  These are the things you should look for when buying your Collectible Trans AM.
Have you ever wondered what one of the fastest ways to spot a well stored TA is?  Look at the T-Tops black anodized trim.  95% of the 2^nd Gen TA’s you will look at will show these have faded to a bright finish.  On a car that has really been stored inside, these frames around the T-Top glass will still be black.  Next check the Tail lights for small cracks – always a big give-away.  Lastly check the wheels.  Is the Gray a little darker than what you are used to seeing?   These are the ways you can be assured that a car is a true low mile and properly stored TA. This is such a car.  It is the definition of pristine original condition!

We recently had gave the car an entire tune-up and it runs very well!  Put new gaskets on the exhaust manifolds after plaining them.  Compression checked out perfect on the engine.  Has good tires on it and runs and drives out great down the road!

It will need a paint job in the future, but now will be a great looking car to jump in and drive now.  Or we can do a complete paint job for you if you want?  It does have some minor rust on the passenger rear floor pan, and the lower quarters are just starting to bubble behind the rear wheels.

Otherwise a complete numbers matching car that has only had a few owners in its life and the first couple had it a majority of its life in a salt free envirnonment in Colorado.

There are certain things that you look for in a Trans AM. There are certain years, models and options that set some of these birds apart from the entire flock. 1978 was a very good year for Pontiac and the Trans AM.  There were 100,000 TA's built in 1978.  So if you are considering the purchase of a Trans AM, you should try and make certain to purchase one of the rare ones. This is one of those cars!

There are some very unique Key Points that make a 1978 Trans AM so desirable. Lets look at a few of those points:

• It was the first year of the FISHER T-TOPS. These marked a huge increase in quality, fit and finish on the Trans AM as the T-TOPS were designed into the car instead of added on like the Hurst Tops were.
• Next, Pontiac upped the performance of the TA 6.6 \ 400 to 220 HP.
• It was the only year that the TA 6.6 motor was mated to the Specially built Turbo 350. This engine and transmission combination was uniquely configured with a higher stall converter and internals to support the additional 40 HP of the W72 motor.
• This combination was connected to a performance 3.23 rear axle ratio instead of the standard 2.56 or 2.73 that came in the standard Trans AM.
• Pontiac also included a unique shifter that had the ability to work in a Manual-Automatic mode letting you shift one gear at a time.
• Lastly, the WS6 option was added to the order sheet.  And you all know how important that is to have on your TA.  The 15x8 Snowflake wheels, special steering box and larger sway bars are just a few of the reasons this is such a great option.

This is the only year you will find all these options in a Trans AM. When you add that to a car that is painted the very unique Martinique Blue color, you have a genuine collectible Trans AM. And if you are not considering it for its inherent collectability, you will most certainly enjoy its superior performance compared to any of the thousands of regular Trans AM's that did not have these highly desirable performance features!
